Description

What do you get when two inspiring and caring teachers - moonlighting as translators and tutors - build their love nest on the edges of Kea? A library.

Reader's Pool ought to be the daily point of departure of any book loving traveler visiting the western-most Cycladic island of Kea. Books abound, in the attic, in the living area, and in the meticulously crafted extension of the master bedroom. There a small library shades a custom made desk and chair lighted by the afternoon beams of the Aegean sun. The handmade furniture - made of oak and cedar - dominate the ambiance of the house. The visitor gets a sense of the eternal, of a historic continuity, a throwback to the island's Byzantine and Venetian times, when local skilled craftsmen were valued and appreciated and the Oak Forest was the source of their scanty livelihood.

And if such thoughts are a far cry from your usual vacation mode or simply too heavy for a lazy afternoon under the Kean sun, just jump into the pool and let the water wash away all your worries, needs, and wants. Let the smells of thyme, lavender, and oregano heal the wounds of the winter and prepare you for life's second act.

A great holiday in KEA.

We loved our stay at Reader's Pool villa; a beautifully-furnished villa with a real charm and Greek personality. As teachers, like the owners, we loved finding so many books and CDs for relaxing mornings by the pool. The views from the property are amazing and we rushed back from the beach every evening to admire the sunset. Alfredos and Kicki are very nice and outgoing; they helped us adjusting and quickly answered all our requests for information. We discovered, regretfully a bit late during our stay, some incredibly secluded beaches with crystal-clear water and beautiful surroundings just for ourselves. Don't hesitate to ask Alfredos if you like a bit of an adventure. A lot of the roads to wild beaches are dirt roads but we got used to them and managed with an ordinary car. Véronique (France)

Lovely House

Alfredos was very welcoming and the house was lovely, with views that lived up to the description.

Our honeymoon

We visited Kea as part of our honeymoon in June 2015. From the moment we made the booking, Alfredos made us very welcome and provided us with useful information on how to travel to the island and advice on what to do whilst we were there. We hired a car from the airport and caught the ferry to Kea. Alfredos provided us with very clear instructions on how to reach the house which were invaluable as the house is outside of the main towns on the island. The 15 minute drive to the house alone was beautiful and took us high into the hills outside of Korissa. Alfredos was waiting for us at the house when we arrived with a lovely welcome basket full of local food and wine. He was able to recommend beaches, points of interest and restaurants on the island for us to make the most of our holiday. We had a wonderful time exploring and couldn't get over how beautiful (and quiet!) the island was. The highlight of our visit however was the beautiful house we stayed in! The view alone was absolutely stunning and we watched the sunset every night over the sea whilst enjoying a drink in the warm sunshine. The house was immaculate and so comfortable. It was only two of us staying but it could have easily accommodated many more. It was very cool in the hot weather and neither of us wanted to leave after our very relaxing week there, idling by the pool, enjoying the views or out exploring the local beaches and bays. We had a small problem with the water in the house during the week but it was quickly dealt with by Alfredos who was always at the end of the phone if we needed him. We thoroughly enjoyed our honeymoon and visit to Kea and would return without a doubt but only if we can stay in this villa again! Thank you Alfredos!
